Wallet Security Basics for New Solana Collectors
New collectors often install a browser wallet, fund it, and start buying within the same hour. That speed skips steps that protect you from phishing sites and malicious transaction approvals — both common in the NFT space.
Two-wallet approach
Use a hot wallet with a modest SOL balance for daily browsing and purchases. Keep valuable holdings in a separate wallet whose seed phrase is stored offline. Transfer between them only when needed. This limits exposure if you accidentally approve a harmful transaction on an unfamiliar site.
Transaction review habit
Every wallet popup shows what you are signing. Read the program name and the SOL amount. If a free mint page asks you to sign something transferring 5 SOL, stop. Legitimate mints charge network fees — typically fractions of a cent — not large transfers.
Bookmark marketplaces
Type marketplace URLs directly or use saved bookmarks. Links in Discord DMs and Twitter replies frequently lead to clone sites designed to drain wallets. Our library includes a verified links sheet we update monthly.
Getting a security walkthrough
Collection building consultations include a screen-shared wallet review. We never ask for seed phrases — we show you settings to check and red flags to watch for on your own setup.
